Nassau County Teams Participated in Eighth Annual Teen Court Competition
Yulee, FL – March 14, 2011 – The Eighth Annual Fourth Judicial Circuit Mock Trial Competition was held on February 25th in Clay County. Nassau County Teen Court students competed against teams from Duval, Clay, and Flagler counties. Sixty students filled the roles in four court rooms and acted as attorneys, witnesses, and court officers for the daylong event.
Fourteen Nassau students from area schools comprised a formidable team of attorneys and witnesses. Nassau County team members were:
Prosecuting Attorneys: Amanda Middleton, Emma Priest, Savanna Edwards Defense Attorneys: Zoe Stein, Megan Gelement, Griffin Young Prosecution Witnesses: Ali Elwell, Kadishja Jackson, Kyle Gelement, and Jasmine Duke Defense Witnesses: Daniel Hickey, Shelbie Miller, Noah Bogosh, and Meranda Berke
The Presiding Judges were: The Honorable Robert M. Foster, The Honorable Brian J. Davis, The Honorable Roberto Arias, and The Honorable Angela Cox.
Scoring Judges from Nassau County were: Wesley White, Director, Nassau County State Attorney’s Office; Ross Germano, Esq.; and Shannon Shaw, Esq.
Team Coaches were: The Honorable Robert E. Williams; Laura Coggin, Nassau County State Attorney’s Office; Chris Clayton, Nassau County Public Defender’s Office; Harrison Poole, Esq.; John J. Cascone, Esq.; and Charles H. Griffin, Nassau County Teen Court Coordinator.
Nassau County received the following team awards: Best Prosecution Team 2nd Place for Best Overall Team
Nassau County students received the following individual awards: Megan Gelement – 4th Place Defense Attorney Award Ali Elwell – Best Overall Witness Award and 1st Place Prosecution Witness Award Kadishja Jackson – 2nd Place Prosecution Witness Kyle Gelement – 3rd Place Prosecution Witness Jasmine Duke – 4th Place Prosecution Witness
